VideoTagger Introduction

Summary: This page will introduce you to the application. Here we go through most of the screens that you will find in the application, we will explain what each customizable item is, and how to use it to your advantage. You will find that the application is easy to learn, with many options for you to experiment with. We wanted to give you, the tv program/movie maker, more power over finishing your movie well.

Ok Let's get into it. This tutorial gives you a "power introduction", and a "detailed look" into each item and we will step you through the application from the opening screen. The "power introduction" will be a very brief description of the item, while the "detailed look" will give you a more wholistic look at the item if the "power introduction" was not descriptive enough for you.

The Initial Welcome Screen

Welcome

Power Introduction:   To begin, create a new file, open a file or exit the application.

Detailed Look:   To begin you can select one of three options.
Click on "New Credits" to create a new file.
Click on "Open Credits" to open a previously saved file, including a "Demo" file that has been created for you to play with.

Project Properties

Project Properties

Power Introduction:   On this screen you can change the project name, the target screen size, the default fonts assigned within the program, and the colors used in your credits.

Detailed Look:   This screen appears in three ways in the application. The first is when you create a new file. The second is when you hit the properties button over the tree, with the top category selected. The third way is to select "Project Properties" from the "Options" menu.

The first entry is the "Project Name", this text entry is used purely as a label to your credits, and is never displayed within your

credit movie.

The next selectable items give you a choice between Analog(TV) or Widescreen. Selecting Analog will define the size of your movie as 512 pixels by 400 pixels, the standard tv size. Selecting Widescreen will define the size of your movie as 1280 pixels by 720 pixels, the standard size for widescreen tv's and movie theater screens.

The next 3 items are similar, they all allow you to define, or modify the default font being used within your credits, you can select valid TrueType Fonts (.ttf) or PostScript Font Binary (.pfb).

The first, "Change Default Title Font", will define the default font used for the default font for all the category title's.

The second, "Change Default Body(Names) Font", will define the default font used for the names of the people, organizations, and songs content.

The first, "Change Default Roles Font", will define the font used for the default font for the role text that is provided in each category.

The next two sections define the colors used within your credits.

The "Change Font Color" brings up a screen that allows you to select the font color that you would like to use in your credits.

The "Change Backgroung Color" brings up a screen that allows you to select the background color that you would like to use in your credits.

Underneath that section are two buttons. Click the "Ok" button to confirm your choices and continue. Click the "Category View" button to view another organizational feature. You can choose to allow your tree to contain sub-categories, which allows you to move entire sections of categories together, or to continue using the no-sub category view.

The Main Screen

Main Screen

This is a quick view at the main screen of the application, we will be pulling this apart and analyzing it piece by piece in the coming sections of this document.

The Category Tree

Power Introduction:  This structure contains categories, each category represented is a section of your credits. Each section has different presentation properties associated with it, and can be re-ordered. Use the buttons above the tree to add a category, delete a category, view the properties of a category, move a category up in the movie order, and move a category down in the movie order.

Detailed Look:  This structure contains categories. Each category that you create will help you to section off and organize your credits. Your final credit movie, will be produced in the order that the categories are sorted in. So in this example, we will first see the "Cast:", followed by "Stunt Men" in the credit movie. Each category is assigned different properties based on your preferences, these properties define how the category appears in your

credits. The buttons above the category tree help you to add, delete, view properties, or move the re-order your credits. We The buttons above the category tree help you to add, delete, view properties, or move the re-order your credits. We will now go through each button with you in detail. The Plus Button (Plus) button, allows you to add a category. It will first bring up the Category Properties screen, and then it will add the category to the end of your credits. The Delete Button (Delete) button will delete the currently selected category. Once you delete a category, you will not be able to restore it (unless you previously saved your file), so use this with button with care. The (Properties) button, will bring up the currently selected category's Category Properties screen. You can edit the Category Properties at any time. If the Project Name is selected, then you will view the Project Properties screen, rather than the Category Properties screen. The Up button(Up) button and the Down Button (Down) button allow you to re-order your credits. Each button will move the selected category up or down in the credit order.

Category Properties

Category Properties

Power Introduction:  This screen allows you to customize how each category will appear in your credits. You can set different fonts, a graphic title, and/or simply modify the layout of the category.

Detailed Look:  This screen allows you to customize how each category will appear. Selecting different options will show or hide other objects based on availability. Select either (in order of appearance) or (in alphabetical order) to show the tagline with the same text in the credits.

Then select the way you would like your title to appear. You can choose a Graphic, Text, or a Blacnk title.

You will notice that selecting different titles will reveal or hide fields to the right of that section. In the section to the right you can see the options Category Font and Body Font. These fields allow you to set a different font to use other than the originally set default font (set in project properties). If you select a Graphic title, you will see a field that will allow you to select a graphic.

Below those sections you will see two more options listed next to Content these options are Song Listing and Graphic Only. Select Song Listing if you are entering a list of songs. Select Graphic Only if you want to only show a graphic in this category.

Below that section you will have the ability to customize the look of your category based on the information that you set in the above. First set the Body Type, you can select a Slide or a Scroller. Selecting Slide will make the category a slide when it is produced in the movie. Selecting a Scroller will make your category scroll in your movie. Next select the Layout, you can choose Names Only or Roles and Names; each corresponds to what you would like to show in this particular category. So for instance if you are make a "Cast" category, you would likely like to show the character name next to the actors name, so you should select Roles and Names, but if you are creating a "Stunt Men" category, you will likely want to select Names Only, as you would likely not want to show the characters name next to the stunt persons name.

Finally after setting the two above fields to your preference, you will see a few final alignment options below. In the picture above, they would be the black images, with the text labels such as Center and 3 Columns. Select the way that you would like the category to be displayed, then click "OK".

The Table

Table
NOTE: We suggest that you press TAB, to move from cell to cell, or row to row.
NOTE 2: You can change the tab fields order in the Options Menu.

It allows you to input data that you would like displayed in your credits. It also allows you to customize the lead and tail spacing between each line of text, and supplies you with a way to quickly re-order the names in the category, or to simply delete an entry.

Detailed Look: This is the table portion of the application. The table supplies you with a way to enter the names, roles and names, or the song details of the selected category. The table changes appearance based upon what properties are chosen in the selected Category's Category Properties screen. In this case the table is a names only table, so it allows the user to enter in the names of the people to be included in the credits. The right hand side of the table provides additional options for each line of text. NOTE: Drag and drop is possible with each line of the table, we suggest starting your drag from the first column of the row, this will make the row move easier. Let's take a closer look at the Line Options.

Table Line Options NOTE: You can change the tab order through the Options Menu. On the left side of the Line Options, you will notice the columns labelled "Lead" and "Tail", with the word "Spacing" above both columns. This denotes the amount of pixels between the previous row, and the current row. The "Lead" spaces will affect spacing prior to the current line, the "Tail" spaces will affect the spacing after a line. In this case there are blacked out columns, this is because this is a
"3 Column per Row" table, the blacked out columns are entries that would have no affect on the spacing. To the right of the spacing columns, you will notice three buttons. The arrow up button will swap the current line, with the line above it. The arrow down button will swap the current line with the line below it. The delete button, will delete the line entirely from your credits.
